 Hongnan Online, April 27------April 25-26, 2015 IDEA-WUT Central China Mandarin and English Debate Competition was held in Wuchang University of Technology, 30 colleges and universities from central China sent more than 260 students participating in this competition. After two days of fierce competition, the representative teams from Huazhong Normal University, Wuhan Institute of Technology and Hubei University won first second third prize of Mandarin respectively, the representative teams from Hunan Normal University, Wuhan University and Wuhan University of Textile won first second third prize of English respectively. A total of six teams from WUT participated in the competition and won second third prize and outstanding award respectively.
It is reported that the International Debate Education Association (IDEA) promotes debate in many countries, in China, IDEA has organized nationwide competitions for 10 years. The competition has a good reputation for its large scale and high level. 2015 IDEA-WUT Central China Mandarin and English Debate Competition was sponsored by the International Debate Education Association and organized by WUT and University of Puget Sound, which attracted 30 colleges and universities from central China to participate in the competition. The organizers of the competition invited a number of experts from home and abroad as trainers and judges. IDEA uses the British parliamentary system, affirmative debaters speak in the order of prime minister, deputy prime minister, ministers and party whip, the negative side is also called the Opposition, speaking in the order of leader, deputy leader, ministers and party whip. Both sides take turns, each debater has seven minutes to speak, during the speech, opponents can raise consultation on points of doubt and can stand up and ask questions after debaters’ permission. Two people make up a team, every debate competition consists of four teams, the role, which is randomly assigned, and the competition field is announced half an hour before the debate competition, the debate topic is revealed fifteen minutes before the competition. Each competition field has two judges and a timekeeper, ten minutes after every debate, the judges will make comments on the contestants and publish the ranking. 88 teams competed in the two days, after four rounds of preliminaries, two semi-finals and a final, champion, runner up, the second runner up of Mandarin and English were matched out respectively. The representative teams from Huazhong Normal University, Wuhan Institute of Technology and Hubei University won first second third prize of Mandarin respectively, the representative teams from Hunan Normal University, Wuhan University and Wuhan University of Textile won first second third prize of English respectively. |
